Jerold T. Elliott, Sr., 85, of Gas, Kansas, died Friday, April 15, 2011, at his home. Jerold was born November 24, 1925, at Erie, Kansas, the son of John Junior and Martha Ellen (Smith) Elliott. He grew up in the Neosho County area and served in the United States Navy during World War II. In 1953, Jerold married Mary Catherine Ross. They made their home in Los Angeles County, California, and raised their four children. She preceded him in death in 1973. He worked for 35 years for Rockwell International before he retired. Jerold moved to Kansas in 2005. He and Alta L. (Hilt) Lee were married on June 14, 2008, in Iola. They made their home in Gas. Jerold was skilled at woodworking making model cars, trains, cabinets, porch swings and anything else he had the plans for. SURVIVORS: His wife: Alta Elliott of the home 3 Sons: Frank Elliott & wife, Joyce of San Dimas, CA, John Elliott and Jerold Elliott, Jr. both of Iola, KS 1 Daughter: Lillian Louise Rohler of Iola, KS 1 Step-Daughter: Nancy Hilt & husband, Randy of Gas, KS 1 Brother: Ivan Elliott of Gas, KS 2 Sisters: Betty Clements of St. Paul, KS and Julia Stout of Iola, KS 10 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by a brother, Marvin Elliott. GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 18, 2011, at Odense Cemetery northeast of Chanute, Kansas. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. MEMORIAL: Philadelphia Church of God Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
