Jerry Dixon, age 73, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away Friday, July 16, 2010 at his home. He was born on May 22, 1937 in Garnett, Kansas, the son of Walter Everett and Juanita Marie (Kennon) Dixon. Jerry joined the United States Navy in the 1950s and spent four years. When he was discharged from the Navy, he made his home in California for a number of years. He then bought a ranch in Colorado in the early 1980s, and when his wife Barbara passed away, he moved back to Garnett. Jerry worked on odd jobs, as in painting houses in Garnett for a number of years before retiring in the early 1990s. Jerry was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #48. Jerry loved to fish, loved to go dancing, played bingo. His favorite pastime was playing cards. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Juanita Dixon and one son, Walter Lee Dixon. Jerry is survived by two sons, Daniel Bradford Dixon and Stephen Vaughn Dixon, both of California; one sister, Barbara Henderson of Garnett, Kansas and one brother, James Dixon and wife Geneva of Quincy, Illinois. Funeral services will be held on 10:00 am, on Monday, July 19, 2010 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Burial to follow at the Garnett Cemetery. The family will be present to greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening, July 18, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jerry Dixon Memorial Fund to be named at a later date.
