Jerry Ellis McClure, age 80, passed away on August 13, 2020, at Jane Phillips Hospital, Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Jerry was born on May 29, 1940, in Iola, Kansas, to Leslie Kenneth McClure and Elsie Louise (Michael) McClure.
Jerry graduated Iola High School in 1959. He attended and graduated with an associate’s degree from Iola Community College.
Jerry and Jean L. Thompson were married in Iola, Kansas, on July 30, 1961. Jerry worked most of his life as an electrician, owning his own electrical company, Mac Electric in Fredonia, Kansas. Jerry was a volunteer fireman for 34 years with the Fredonia Fire Department. He was a reserve law enforcement officer for the Wilson County Sheriff and the Fredonia Police Department, and a volunteer with EMT services.
Jerry enjoyed hunting, reloading shotgun and rifle shells, fishing, reading books, and traveling across the United States. He visited almost every state. Jerry liked riding his motorcycle and camping.
Jerry was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; his in-laws, Glen and Thelma Thompson; and two brothers, Arthur Dean McClure and Cecil Ray McClure.
Jerry is survived by daughter, Laura McClure, Independence, Kansas; son, Richard E. McClure, Murrieta, California; granddaughters, Ashley K. McClure, Sacramento, California, Victoria M. McClure, Murrieta, California; grandson, Nathaniel K. McClure, Murrieta, California; brother, Steven E. McClure and wife, Mary Beth, Uniontown, Kansas; sister, Margie A. Schooler and husband, Don, Dewey, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 22, 2020, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas. A private family burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas.
Memorials are suggested the Fredonia Fire Department, and may be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service.
