Jim H. Turley, 82, of Kansas City, Kansas, died Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at the Kansas City Hospice House in Kansas City, Missouri. Jim was born October 7, 1927 in Hopkins County, Texas, the son of William Lawson and Linnie Ellen (Tate) Turley. When he was three weeks old the family moved to Allen County, Kansas. He graduated from Moran High School in 1945 and then joined the United States Marine Corps where he served during World War II. On April 10, 1948, Jim married Lola Jean Cline and they made their home in Iola where he attended Iola Junior College. They moved to Kansas City where he worked for the Cudahay Packing Plant before going to work for Delco Battery in Olathe. He retired from Delco and while working there served as a Union Steward for the United Auto Workers. In his younger years, Jim excelled at basketball and then later in life became an avid fisherman and hunter. SURVIVORS: His wife of 62 years: Lola Jean Turley of the home 2 Sons: Mark Turley of Gardner, KS and Rick Turley of Parkville, MO 1 Daughter: Karen Kay Corbett of Albuquerque, NM 1 Sister: Marjorie Carter of St. James, MO 6 Grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 5 sisters. GRAVESIDE SERVICE: Family and friends will gather at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 31, 2010, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola to leave for graveside services to be held at 11:00 a.m. in the LaHarpe Cemetery at LaHarpe, Kansas.
