John Jay Barker “Herbie,” of Iola, Kansas passed away on July 17th, 2019, at the age of 63 years. John was born in Iola, Kansas on July 16th, 1956. He graduated from Iola High School in 1974. A proud veteran, John served in the United States Navy from 1974-1977; he was stationed on the USS Forrestal in Norfolk, Virginia. John married the love of his life, Linda Louise (Keagle) Barker in 1983 and enjoyed 36 years of marriage. John and Linda had two sons John David Barker of Topeka, Kansas and Dustin Leigh Barker of Alexandria, Virginia. John was co-owner of Rig 6 Drilling Company from 1989 through 2014. Working the night shift, his favorite part was seeing “blue country” – the time of the day when the night is ending and the sun has yet peaked over the horizon. John was an avid rock-hound with his head always down looking for the next treasure. John loved fishing, music, motorcycles, and spending time with friends, family, and his dog BB. John is survived by his wife Linda; his eldest son and daughter-in-law John and Rachel (Springer) Barker, their three children Jackson, Lauren, and Ella; his youngest son and daughter-in-law Dustin and Kacy (Canady) Barker; and two sisters Betty Stroud (Barker) and Christy Ellis (Barker). John is proceeded in death by his parents Ernest and Betty (Christie) Barker of Iola, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 24, 2019, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Iola, with burial to follow in Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 9:00–10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning at the funeral home.
