John L. Benjamin, age 69, of Garnett, Kansas, died on Monday, August 18, 2008 at his home in Garnett, Kansas. He was born October 9, 1938 in Garnett, Kansas, the son of James Otto and Dorotha (Whaley) Benjamin. He graduated from Welda High School in 1956. John married Shirley Parks on June 2, 1957, at the Welda United Methodist Church in Welda, Kansas. He was a farmer and a truck driver. He logged over 3 million miles without a traffic ticket. He was a former member of the Welda Fire Department and the Farm Bureau, serving on the Board of Directors. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James Benjamin and Vernon Benjamin; and one sister, Carol Parks. John is survived by his wife, Shirley Benjamin, of the home; son Todd Benjamin of Garnett, Kansas; daughter Ruth McDonald and husband Wade of Garnett, Kansas; two brothers, Richard Benjamin and wife Kay of Olathe, Kansas; Don Benjamin and wife Lorie of Hays, Kansas; three grandchildren; Felicia Benjamin of Garnett, Kansas; Tony Benjamin of Fort Pierce, Florida; Andy Benjamin of Pittsburg, Kansas; two great grandchildren; Breyanna Benjamin and Kelsie-Ann Benjamin. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2008 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Welda Cemetery in Welda, Kansas. Visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2008, at the funeral home in Garnett. Memorial contributions may be made to the Welda United Methodist Church.
