John C. Cleaver, age 72, of Iola, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2018, at Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita, Kansas. He was born August 8, 1945 in Fort Sumner, New Mexico, the son of Charles Homer and Mildred Naomi (Mark) Cleaver. John graduated from Iola High School and from Pittsburg State University. John married Mary Pollet on October 18, 1968. This union was blessed with three children. They lived in Iola, Arma, and Moran before moving to Wichita where they lived for 35 years. John worked in maintenance for 25 years for Air Products Chemical Plant in Wichita. He was a devoted lifetime member of the Iola Lodge #33 and the Midian Shrine Temple, Wichita. He loved to hunt and fish, target shoot, and spend time with his family. John enjoyed as a teenager playing the French horn in the Symphonette in Iola. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Mildred Cleaver; his wife, Mary Alice Cleaver on May 4, 2015. John is survived by two sons, Mark Cleaver and fiancé Heather Mejia of Iola, Kansas; John C. Cleaver Jr. of Wichita, Kansas; one daughter, Michelle Heller and husband, Russell of Wichita, Kansas; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, May 5, 2018, at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, 1883 US Hwy 54, Iola, Kansas. The family will greet friends on Friday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
