John Heard, 91, of Iola, Kansas, died Sunday, November 17, 2013, at Windsor Place in Iola. John was born January 6, 1922, in Wheatland, Missouri, the son of Woodson and Ethel (Goodman) Heard. When he was 6 months old the family moved to Bronson, Kansas. He graduated from Bronson High School and on December 24, 1941, married Lucile Pool in Iola. John served in the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, he worked for Cyrus Truck Lines until they sold out in 1983. He drove a truck for 15 of those years before becoming their dispatcher. He then worked part time for Peters Retail Liquor Store and Iola's Western Auto Store. Lucile preceded him in death October 19, 2003. His memberships include the Iola American Legion and Wesley United Methodist Church. SURVIVORS: 1 Son: David Heard & wife, Mary Kay of Iola, KS 2 Daughters: Sharon Anderson & husband, Bob of El Dorado Hills, CA, and Connie Albrecht & husband, Joe of Cookeville, TN 5 Grandchildren: John Heard, Sharla Miller, Scott Heard, Tammy McClellan and Jay Albrecht 12 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by his son Dale Heard and granddaughter Tracy Rickerson. FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola where the family will greet friends prior to the service. BURIAL: Highland Cemetery, Iola, KS MEMORIAL: Hospital Equipment Fund of Allen County Community Foundation Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
