John E. Maier, 59, of Iola, Kansas, died Friday, December 31, 2010, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kansas. John was born June 15, 1951, in Iola, Kansas, the son of John Henry and Norma Jean (Kunkler) Maier. He grew up in Iola and graduated from Iola High School in 1969. He attended Pittsburg State University where he received both his bachelor and master degrees. On October 1, 1971, John married Nancy McCrate in Iola. They made their home in Pittsburg until moving to Iola in 1978. They had three children before they divorced. John worked as general manager at IMP Boats in Iola until it closed. He later worked as a case manager for the Southeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging out of Chanute. He was a member of the Northern Cherokee Nation. SURVIVORS: His 3 Children: Ben Maier & wife, Cassandra of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota; Sean Maier & wife, Kelci of Iola, Kansas; and Sarah Maier of Lawrence, Kansas His Mother: Jean Maier of Iola, Kansas 1 Brother: Bill Maier of Iola, Kansas 1 Grandson: Lucas Maier He was preceded in death by his father, John H. Maier and by an infant brother, Robert E. Maier Cremation has taken place. OPEN HOUSE VISITATION: The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011, at the home of Nancy Maier, 202 S. Cottonwood, Iola, Kansas.
