Tom McAdam, age 79, of Moran, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, August 20, 2019, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas.
John Thomas McAdam was born on January 21, 1940 at Colony, Kansas. Tom was the fifth of six children born to John S. and Mildred (Carnes) McAdam. He grew up in Moran and was a lifelong resident of the Moran area. John married Mary Sue Rickerson, four children were born to this union. They later divorced. On April 19, 1974 Tom married Bonnie Hultz in Colony, Kansas.
Tom's life work was in and around the rock quarries of Southeast Kansas. He owned and operated McAdam Limestone Corporation with his father and his brother, Bill. They operated quarries and performed many construction projects throughout Kansas, until they sold the business in 1996. Tom was a fifty-year member of Marmaton Lodge #245, Moran, Valley of Fort Scott, Scottish Rite, and Mirza Shrine, Pittsburg. He was Past Master of the Marmaton Lodge and Past Potentate of Mirza Temple. Tom was an active member of the Masonic Bodies and he enjoyed the countless friendships he made through those organizations. If you ever met Tom you knew instantly that he never met a stranger. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, family, and his dog, Lady (maybe even Lady more than his bulldozers).
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother and an infant sister.
He is survived by his wife Bonnie of the home; two sons, Brian McAdam of Moran, Kansas, and Fred McAdam of Cedar Vale, Kansas; two daughters, Stephanie McAdam of Cedar Vale, Kansas, Marcy Gray and David Dickey of Ada, Oklahoma; step-daughter Susanna Thyer and husband, Jeff of Pittsburg, Kansas; ten grandchildren, Caleb Thyer, Casey and wife, Lindsey Thyer, Calvin Thyer, Fred "Gus" McAdam, Jr., Clara Rae McAdam, Mason Gray, Memphis Gray and Madelyn Gray, Nathan McAdam and wife Shannon, Jeremy McAdam and wife, Kim; four great-grandchildren; brother, Bill McAdam and Pat Ensminger of Moran, Kansas; two sisters, Beverly Franklin and husband, Jack of Iola, Kansas, and Carolyn Holloway of Bella Vista, Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 23, 2019, at the Moran United Methodist Church, Moran, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Lone Elm Cemetery, Kincaid, Kansas. The family will greet friends from 5:00 - 8:00 PM, Thursday, August 22, 2019, in The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Hwy. 54, Iola, Kansas.
