John V. Ramsour, age 70, of Garnett, Kansas passed away May 24, 2008 at the Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas. He was born October 24, 1937 at Junction City, Kansas, the son of Homer and Frieda (Keller) Ramsour. He grew up in the Junction City area, where he attended Geary County District 8, Brookside School, before he entered the Junction City High School, graduating in 1955. John was active in the Geary County 4-H while he was growing up. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture Engineering from Kansas State University. He then entered the United States Army. Following his service in the Army he returned to Kansas where he began working for the United States Army Corps of Engineers. He later took a position with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, working in Denver, and Minneapolis before retiring in 1995, at which time he moved to Garnett, Kansas. After moving to Garnett he worked as a custodian at Garnett Elementary Center for several years. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and reader. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Harold Ramsour, one sister, Helen Cubit, and a nephew, Dan Ramsour. John is survived by a brother, Walter A. Ramsour and his wife, Doris, of Wichita, Kansas; five nephews, Bruce Ramsour of Aurora, Nebraska, Paul Ramsour of Vanderbilt, Tennessee, Mark Ramsour of Tucson, Arizona, David Ramsour of Wichita, Kansas, and John Cubit of Garnett, Kansas; one niece, Sharon Blomquist of Garnett, Kansas; and a host of friends and family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett. Interment will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 7:00 8:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be given to the Arthritis Foundation or the American Diabetes Association.
