John David Scheibmeir, 65, of Bernice, Oklahoma, died Sunday, March 29, 2015, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin. John was born June 28, 1949, in Iola, Kansas, the son of Lloyd F. and Pearl M. ( Henry ) Scheibmeir. He grew up in Piqua and then served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was stationed aboard the USS Ranger and the USS Ticonderoga. John was married to Patricia Hensley and they made their home in Humboldt. They had a daughter, Michele. John operated heavy equipment and did a lot of excavation projects along with oil field work. John was later married to Denise Rugg and they lived in Garnett where he operated as J & D Contractors. John retired and moved to Bernice, Oklahoma, on Grand Lake where he could fish, enjoy woodworking, and entertain his grandchildren. Whether it was serving on a city council or coaching baseball he stayed active in the community in which he lived. John was a member and officer of the Bernice V.F.W. Post #2592. SURVIVORS: 1 Daughter: Michele Martin and husband John of Louisburg 3 Brothers: Ron and wife Patti of Topeka, Jerry and wife Yvette of Iola, Kenny and wife Cyndi of Yates Center 2 Sisters: Susie Sicka and husband Warren of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Judie Laws of Yates Center 2 Grandchildren: Ty and Trent Martin Cremation has taken place. MEMORIAL GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 6, 2015 at St. Martin's Catholic Cemetery in Piqua, Kansas. Visitation with the family and lunch will follow the service at the Piqua Knights of Columbus Hall. MEMORIAL: The John Scheibmeir Memorial Fund Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
