John Wagner, Jr. 81, of LaHarpe, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Labette Health in Parsons, Kansas. John was born May 9, 1932, in Garnett, Kansas, the son of John David and Violet Genelle (Hartman) Wagner. He grew up at Moran. John served in the U.S. Army 15th Inf. Regt. 3rd Div. during the Korean War attaining the rank of Cpl. E4 and was awarded the United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal-w/1 Bronze Service Star, National Defense Service Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Good Conduct Medal and New Korean War Service Medal. On September 5, 1956, John married Eva L. Burton in Iola and over the years they have made their home in Iola, Moran and LaHarpe. He worked as a heavy equipment operator and diesel mechanic for Nelson Quarries for 57 years. His memberships include Calvary United Methodist Church, LaHarpe V.F.W., Iola American Legion, 40 et 8, The Graybeards and the Marmaton Valley Masonic Lodge at Moran. John enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. SURVIVORS: His wife of 56 years: Eva Wagner of the home 5 Children: Jeanne Harles & husband Will of Moran, KS, Leon Wagner & significant other Stacey Tate of Moran, KS, Gary Wagner & fiancé Kelly Morrison of Iola, KS, Janet Stafford & husband Ron of Thayer, KS, and Kevin Wagner & wife Rachel of Hiattville, KS 2 Brothers: Bill & Deliena Wagner of Hepler, KS and J.V. & Ila Wagner of Moran, KS 1 Sister: Maxine Engle of Ft. Scott, KS 14 Grandchildren & 22 Great Grandchildren with another great granddaughter on the way Numerous Nieces & Nephews He was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws Bert W. & Goldie Florence (Creason) Burton, son Larry Dean Wagner, brother Melvin Dean Wagner & sister Florine Stewart. VISITATION: 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Iola. BURIAL: Highland Cemetery, Iola, KS MEMORIAL CHOICES: Calvary United Methodist Church or 40 et 8 Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
