Joseph D. Katzer, age 88, of Greeley, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at his daughter's home in Colony, Kansas with his family by his side. He was born on September 11, 1923, in Greeley, Kansas, the son of Rudolph John Katzer and Rose Catherine (Miller) Katzer. Joe married Barbara Ann Whalen on October 8, 1960 in Kansas City, Missouri. This union was blessed with three daughters. They made their home in Greeley, Kansas and farming was his way of life. He loved the outdoors working with cattle, his land, and also enjoyed gardening. He was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus of Greeley, Kansas, and enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a social man, never meeting a stranger. He enjoyed going to the Church Bazaar and family gatherings. Joe had a positive outlook on life and instilled that in his family. Joe was a respected man of the community. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Rose Katzer; his wife, Barbara Katzer on May 5, 2009; brothers, Alfred Katzer, Urban Katzer, Leonard Katzer, and two infant brothers, Carl and Dennis Katzer; brother-in-laws; Mike Adams and Floyd Sturgis; and sister-in-law, Patricia Katzer. Joe is survived by three daughters, Angie Plumb and husband Neal of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; Rita Williams and husband Howard of Garnett, Kansas; Sharon Wiley and husband Mark of Colony, Kansas; ten grandchildren, Brandon Plumb, Aaron Taylor, Nicole Newberry, Jeremiah Taylor, Ethan Capps, Kynza Capps, Amy Clinton, Stephanie Williams, Katie Wiley, and Dexter Wiley; and one great granddaughter, Paisley Clinton; two sisters, MaryRose Adams of Shawnee Mission, Kansas; Charlene Meiners and husband Richard of Lenexa, Kansas; one brother, Donald Katzer and wife Donna of Moore, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Rosie Katzer of Garnett, Kansas; sister-in-law, Peggy Gardner and husband John of Kansas City, Missouri; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Scipio, with burial following in the Holy Angels Cemetery, Garnett. The family will greet friends following a rosary at 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Care of Kansas.
