Joseph L "Joe" Shrum

Joseph L. Shrum, age 60, of Iola, Kansas, passed away at his home on March 17, 2018. Joe was born on April 15, 1957, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, to Arthur Shrum and Mildred McErackly Shrum. He attended school in Eureka Springs. Joe worked as a custodian for the Iola Schools for 38 years. Joe was known for his friendliness, his care of others, and knowing how to make people laugh. Joe was especially fond of Elvis Presley, playing the lottery, and drinking coffee. He loved his grandchildren and spending time with them. Joe is survived by his two daughters, Robin Hyden and Jennifer Utley, both of Iola, Kansas; one sister, Karen Shields and husband, Don, Chanute, Kansas; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Brenda Joyce and Margie Shields; two brothers, Arthur Shrum and Truman Shrum. A memorial service honoring Joe's life will be at 6:00 p.m. on April 17, 2018, at the First Assembly of God Church, 1020 Carpenter Street, Iola, Kansas.
