Joseph J Patterson

Joseph J Patterson, age 81, of Iola, Kansas, formerly of Gainesville, Missouri, passed away on July 29, 2023 at Allen County Hospital, Iola.

Joseph was born in Iola, Kansas, to Dwight and Lois (Steele) Patterson. He was the second of two sons in his family, growing up in Iola and graduating from high school there. Following school Joseph entered the US Army in 1960. He was a paratrooper and a Viet Nam veteran. After serving in the Army, Joseph entered the police academy in Kansas City. He worked in law enforcement, retiring after 26 years. He later moved to Bland, Missouri, where he worked as an investigator for the Missouri Department of Transportation in Jefferson City. Joseph eventually settled in Gainesville, Missouri, where he lived with his wife, Millie for many years. Following Millie's passing in 2020, Joseph returned to Iola, Kansas to live with his son, Ben. Joseph loved the Lord and serving in his church, he was a member of the Frontier Baptist Church in Pontiac, Missouri, and the Harvest Baptist Church in Iola. Joseph enjoyed hunting and fishing in his free time.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Larry Patterson; and his wife, Millie.

He is survived by his children, Tammy Splechter and Earl, David Patterson and Beth, Ben Patterson, Elizabeth George, Joshua Patterson; many grandchildren and additional family and friends.

Joseph's family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Thursday, August 3, 2023, in The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Hwy 54, Iola, Kansas 66749. Graveside services in the Oak Forest Cemetery, Bland, Missouri, will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, August 5, 2023.
