Joyce Marie Teter, age 74, of Ottawa, Kansas, passed away on Friday, October 21, 2016, at KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. She was born on September 5, 1942, at Iola, Kansas. She was the youngest daughter born to Alfred and Mary (Willett) Stevenson. She was a lifelong resident of Ottawa, Kansas, attending school there. Joyce was united in marriage to James Edward Teter on June 30, 1971, in Miami, Oklahoma. She was a wife, mother and grandmother, and worked as a cashier at various Ottawa grocery stores. Joyce loved life on the farm, particularly their horses and dogs. She was preceded in death by her parents; half-brother, Floyd Cape; and half-sister, Rosie McAlexander. Joyce is survived by her husband, Jim Teter, of the home; sons, Bill and Deborah Lucas of Gardner, Kansas, Jim and Heather Teter of Overland Park, Kansas, Scott and Rebecca Teter of Ottawa; daughters, Donna and Steve Layton of Wellsville, Kansas, Sandy and Jack Crawford of Ottawa, Kim and Ray Caruthers of Quenemo, Kansas, Christie and Matt Pruitt of Ottawa; nineteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and sister, Jerry and Charles Wille of Piqua, Kansas; eight nieces and two nephews. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett. Inurnment will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Thursday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Franklin County Cancer Society and left in care of the funeral home.
