Karen Whitcomb

Karen Elaine Whitcomb, age 47, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2012, at her home. Karen was born on October 5, 1964, in Garnett, Kansas, the daughter of Darell Wayne and Mary Louise (Schomaker) Young. She grew up in the area, and graduated from Garnett High School in 1983. She worked as a CNA at Arkhaven in Garnett; Richmond Care Center in Richmond; and Home to Home in Garnett. She collected angels and crosses, loved decorating her house, listening to music, playing cards and board games. Karen enjoyed her friends, and her house was always full. She was a generous and kind person. Her greatest love was her children. Karen was preceded in death by her nephew, Nicky Young; her grandfather, Bernard Schomaker; grandparents, Ralph and Elsie Young. She is survived by her children; Katie Wilson and husband Jason of Garnett; Trevor Young and Ashley Young, of the home; her parents, Darell and Mary Young of Garnett; sister, Sheryl Clark and husband Mark of Rantoul, Kansas; brothers, Rusty Young of Colony; Roger Young and wife Brenda of Colony; and grandmother, Minnie Louise Schomaker of Iola, Kansas; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, on Monday, March 12, 2012, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett. The family will be present to greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday evening from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Education Fund or to help defray funeral expenses.
