Kathryn Elizabeth Wilmoth, age 87, of Iola, Kansas, passed away September 10, 2023, at Heartland Meadows, Iola, Kansas. Kathryn was born August 1, 1936, on a farm southeast of Yates Center in Owl Creek Township to Francis R. (Frank) O'Brien and Mary B. (Totman) O'Brien.
Kathryn attended country schools at Cherry Creek and New York Valley near the O'Brien family farm. She graduated in 1954 from Humboldt High School, Humboldt, Kansas. Kathryn attended one year at Iola Junior College.
Kathryn and Donald Lee Wilmoth were married October 2, 1956, in Iola, Kansas. To this union five children were born.
Kathryn lived in Olathe, Kansas, from 1956 to 1958 while Don was stationed in the Navy. They moved to Colony, Kansas, in 1958 and lived there until 1967. Kathryn lived in Iola, Kansas, from 1967 until 2023.
Kathryn worked for Allen County State Bank, Iola, Kansas from 1955 to 1956. She was then a homemaker, mother, and babysat in her home. In 1973 she returned to work at Allen County Bank and Trust, later Emprise Bank, and worked until 1995.
Kathryn was a member of Saint John's Catholic Church and Altar Society.
Kathryn enjoyed her family, traveling, embroidering, crocheting, taking pictures, and scrapbooking.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; infant brother, Robert F. O'Brien; sister, Mary F. Clark; and an infant great-grandson.
Kathryn is survived by her five children, Mike (Aleta Platt) Wilmoth, Wellington, Kansas, Patty (John) Dick, Yates Center, Kansas, Donna (Steven) Carpenter, Iola, Kansas, Jane (Don) Burns, Gas, Kansas, Tom (Jennifer Guenther) Wilmoth, Wichita, Kansas; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Mary Dickey.
A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, followed by a visitation in the chapel at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at St. John's Catholic Church, Iola, Kansas. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery, Iola, Kansas.
