Mary Kathleen "Katy" Haire, 85, of Iola, Kansas, died Sunday, June 19, 2011, at her home. Katy was born January 15, 1926, at Wetumka, Oklahoma, the daughter of Carl and Viola (Banks) Stadalman. The family eventually moved to Herrington, Kansas where she graduated from high school. On March 3, 1946, Katy married Hugh L. Haire and they made their home in Emporia, Osborne and Barnes before moving to Iola in 1956. He preceded her in death on September 25, 1995. Katy was very artistic and enjoyed doing watercolors, making pottery, quilting, basket weaving, and especially creating Hungarian Easter eggs known as pysanky. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Iola, and served as a docent for the Allen County Historical Society. SURVIVORS: 1 Daughter: Jane Tweedy of Iola,KS 3 Sons: Bill Haire of Omaha, NE, Patrick Haire of Humboldt, KS, and Mike Haire of Wichita, KS 9 Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild Cremation has taken place. VISITATION: 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 23, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. MEMORIAL: The Katy & Hugh Haire Memorial Scholarship that is established with the Allen County Community College Endowment Fund Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
