Kenneth "Kenny" Dee Smail, age 72, of Piqua, Kansas, passed away on February 21, 2025, in Kansas City, Missouri, surrounded by loved ones.
Kenny was born on March 5, 1952, in Dallas, Texas to Wayne and Vivian (Porter) Smail. He attended high school in Iola, Kansas, and graduated with the class of 1971. During his time at IHS, Kenny excelled in cross country and track, and was on the 1969 state champion cross country team. This love for running continued throughout his life, leading him to run 10k's. He also became an avid cyclist, completing many long distance trail rides with other local enthusiasts.
In 1973, Kenny married Jenifer Westerman and they made their home in Piqua. He began working for the Piqua Farmer's Co-op in 1974, and spent the next 42 years with them, serving the farming community. He retired as manager in 2016. Kenny was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for many years. He was also a very devoted father and grandfather, and loved helping his family with anything they needed.
Kenny was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Marilyn Hahn.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years; siblings, Kay, John, and Ron; children, Ryan (Jennifer) Smail, Erica (Darin) Carlisle, and Lindsey (Ryan) Rudder; 14 grandkids, Benjamin, Gabriel, Levi, Adam, Lydia, Seth, Adeline, Tucker, Logan, Cora, Grace, Emma, Violet, and Isaac; and many other relatives and friends that will miss him greatly.
A Mass of Christian Burial service will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Martin's Oratory in Piqua, Kansas. Burial will immediately follow at the St. Martin's Catholic Cemetery. A Rosary will be said on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at 5:30 PM at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas. Following the Rosary, family will greet friends at a visitation from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Friends for Life cancer support organization, or St. Martin's Cemetery Fund, and can be left in the care of Feuerborn Family Funeral Service. Condolences can be left at www.feuerbornfuneral.com.
