Kirk "Pete" Kress, 48, of Iola, Kansas, died Sunday, January 8, 2012 at his home. He was born October 7, 1963, at Iola, the son of Charles and Betty Anne (Trowbridge) Kress. He grew up on the family farm northwest of Piqua and attended Yates Center Schools. Kirk worked for the Iola Fire Department for 23 years, attaining the rank of Deputy Chief before he left for a position with the State Fire Marshal's office. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, Nascar races and K-State football. On September 24, 1985, Kirk married Lisa Marvin and they had a son. They later divorced. On October 19, 1994, he married Sharon L. Smart who survives. He also leaves one son, Trey Kress and his wife, Patience of Iola, grandson, Tayven Kress, his father, Charles Kress of rural Piqua, 2 brothers, Charles Kress II & wife, Jan of Iola, John Kress & wife, Alzina of Iola, 3 sisters, Charyl Link of Kansas City, KS, Diane Stines & husband, Bob of Edgerton, KS, and Lori Jay of Brasoria, TX, his in-laws, Howard and Ruth Smart of Iola, a number of nieces and nephews, and his dog, Homer. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Anne Kress in 2000, and by his grandparents, Albert & Clara Kress and George and Ruby Trowbridge. ROSARY & VISITATION: The parish rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, 2012, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola, followed by visitation. MASS: 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2012, at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Piqua. BURIAL: St. Martin's Cemetery, Piqua, KS MEMORIAL: Allen County Animal Rescue Facility (ACARF) or charity of your choice.
