L. Romaine Tharp, Aug. 12, 1918 to June 14, 2011, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family. Romaine was born at Okmulgee, Oklahoma, the daughter of H.E. and Cora Ruth (DeWert) Russell, Sr. She grew up in Iola where she graduated from Iola High School. She attended the University of Kansas. On May 6, 1943, Romaine married Dale Tharp in Kansas City. They made their home in Iola. Dale preceded her in death on September 12, 1979. Romaine enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her one great-grandchild, Gabby. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Iola Music Club and Friends of Bowlus. SURVIVORS: 4 Daughters: Debra Wagner & her husband, Phil of Stafford, Virginia, Tammi Tharp of Carmel, California, Nancy Tharp of Dallas, Texas, and Jan Drimmel & her husband, John of Overland Park, Kansas 2 Grandchildren: Shannon Wagner of Stafford, Virginia and C.J. Tharp & his wife, Lindsey of Overland Park, Kansas 1 Great Granddaughter: Gabrielle Tharp of Overland Park, Kansas She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dale and brother, Harker E. Russell, Jr. VISITATION & GRAVESIDE SERVICE: Family and friends will meet at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola, for a brief time of visitation before leaving for graveside services in Highland Cemetery in Iola. The Rev. Trudy Kenyon Anderson will officiate. MEMORIAL CHOICES: Wesley United Methodist Church or Friends of Bowlus Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
