Larry G. Foltz, age 81, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022, at the Anderson County Hospital in Garnett.
Larry George Foltz was born on November 9, 1941, in Garnett, Kansas. He was the second of three children born to George Washington Foltz and Helena Barbara (Wittman) Foltz. Larry lived 80 of his 81 years on the same family farm north of Garnett. He was proud to be a member of the first class to attend all eight years at Holy Angels School, and then graduated from Garnett High School with the Class of 1959. Larry was united in marriage to Janice Sumner on February 24, 1968, in Garnett, Kansas. This union was blessed with nine children. Larry was a farmer throughout his life, beginning with renting his own ground to farm as a teenager. In addition to farming Larry worked at the Foltz Feed Store, Page's Locker Plant, and worked as a carpenter before going to work for the Anderson County Road Department. In 2008, Larry retired from the county after 20 plus years there. Larry's many talents were put to use on the farm over the years as he raised cattle, hogs, and some wild boys. His breadth of knowledge was wide ranging and will be missed. Larry loved to cook and was excellent at it, a skill he learned while serving in the National Guard. In his younger years Larry enjoyed coon hunting, riding horses and enjoying a cold beer with a friend. More recently, he loved the time spent in the shop with the boys and their friends playing pitch. He especially loved following his kids and grandkids activities. In later years he could often be found in his recliner rocking his grand and great grandkids.
Larry was a faithful member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. As a devoted church member Larry mowed the church cemetery for many years and served on the cemetery board. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #1368. Larry served on the Holy Angels School board for many years and he was proud of sending his children there and seeing many of his grandchildren attending the school as well. He was very generous with his time volunteering for many local boards and projects, including the Anderson County Fair Board, Star Shooting 4-H, and the 4-H extension council. Larry had a love for supporting the community parades, whether it was on a float or pulling one behind his tractor.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; father and mother in law, Jack and Thelma Sumner; two brothers in law, Bill Foote and Dale Holt; grandson, Wesley Freeman.
He is survived by his wife, Janice Foltz, of the home; three daughters, six sons, and two foster sons, Amy Miller and husband, Mark, Mark Foltz and wife, Amanda, Kara Reynolds and husband, Bill, Luke Foltz and wife, Chariti, John Foltz and Melanie Wallace, Matt Foltz and wife, Val, Pete Foltz and wife, Jill, Lindy Katzer and husband, Travis, Caleb Foltz and wife, Liz, and Anthony and Averell Childers; 38 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters, Julie Holt and Margie Foote; brother in law, John Sumner; and many nieces and nephews.
