Larry Garrett

Larry Allen Garrett went to meet his Lord on December 29, 2011. Larry was born on August 10, 1931 in Gove County, Kansas. He married Patricia "Deanie" Aldean Arie on November 25, 1951. She preceded him in death on February 28, 2005. Larry lived his life in various Kansas communities providing ministry to his congregations and the community. He moved to southeast Kansas in the early 1990's. He retired from the ministry and entered his second career as a bus driver for the Iola school district. He considered the children he carried his other set of grandkids. He carried his "most precious cargo" for the last 17 years. Larry drove a regular bus route and for various school activities through the current fall semester. Larry passed away after spending the holidays with his family. Larry and Deanie raised four children. His oldest daughter, Jo Kelley, preceded him in death, passing on June 4, 1999. He is survived by Mike and Kim Garrett, Pratt, KS, John and Carol Garrett, Atlantic, IA, Suzy and Jim Murray, Atlantic, IA, and Pat Kelley, Beloit, KS. Larry has 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. MEMORIAL SERVICE: 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 31, 2011, at the First Christian Church at 1608 Oregon Road in Iola, KS. MEMORIAL: The Larry Garrett Memorial Fund (For a school project for U.S.D. 257) Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which assisted the family.
