Larry Mains, age 73, of Garnett, Kansas passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 at his home. He was born on October 22, 1937, in Garnett, Kansas, the son of Ralph and Thelma (Sanders) Mains. He grew up in the area, graduating from Garnett High School. Larry was in the U.S. Army for two years following high school. Larry was united in marriage to Patricia Ann "Patsy" Barnes on October 1, 1960, in Garnett, Kansas. This union was blessed with thirteen children. He worked for the Anderson County CO-OP, Harris Division, from December of 1962 to October of 1992. Larry was also a Volunteer Firefighter and Hunter Safety Instructor. He loved playing cards and horseshoes, as well as hunting and fishing. In younger years, he enjoyed playing fast pitch softball for the Harris Hillbillies. He also loved attending all sporting events of his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Patsy on July 7, 1997; brother Harold Mains; and grandson Quinton Mains. Larry is survived by three sons, Tim Mains (Tarenia) of Turpin, Oklahoma; Bill Mains (Jean) of Liberal, Kansas; Mike Mains (Ashley) of Garnett, Kansas; ten daughters, Peggy Wendling (Scott) of Olpe, Kansas; Barbara Mains (Lee) of Plains, Kansas; Betsy Spain (Doug) of Americus, Kansas; Carolyn Hicks (Darren) of Gardner, Kansas; Nancy Berard (Gary) of Olathe, Kansas; Michelle Sherbon (Jon) of Garnett, Kansas; Rosanna McSwane (Mitchell) of Emporia, Kansas; Kathy Martin (Phillip) of Ottawa, Kansas; Christina Mains of Olathe, Kansas; Jennifer Mains of Portland, Oregon; nineteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother, Floyd Mains of Greeley, Kansas; twin sisters, Florine Morgan of Ottawa, Kansas; and Lorine Turner of Princeton, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 17, 2011, at the First Christian Church in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Holy Angels Cemetery in Garnett, Kansas. He will lie in state on Saturday, October 15, 2011, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; and Sunday, October 16, 2011, from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., all at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Home in Garnett. Family will be present to greet friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett. Memorial contributions may be made to the Larry Mains Memorial Fund.
