LaVerne H. Wittman, age 89, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2012, at Golden Heights in Garnett, Kansas. She was born June 11, 1922, at Ellsworth, Kansas, the daughter of Frank Nicholas Kueser and Gertrude Helen (Hermreck) Kueser. She attended school at East Scipio, taught by nuns from Ursuline Academy, Paola, Kansas. After graduating from 8th grade in 1936, she worked with several families as a caregiver to their small children and their homes. She went to work in the Spring of 1940 to St. Mary's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, where she worked in the kitchen, which included preparing food, patient menus, and washing dishes. LaVerne was united in marriage to Albert L. Wittman on November 27, 1945, at Scipio, Kansas. This union was blessed with ten children. She was a member of St. Boniface Church and St. Boniface Altar Society. She was also a member of Greeley VFW Auxiliary 6887. LaVerne was preceded in death by parents; her husband, Albert Wittman on November 9, 2003; son-in-law Ralph "Butch" Katzer in 2002; four brothers, Joe Kueser; Earl Kueser, Harold Kueser, and Ralph Kueser; granddaughter, Kelly Jo Morrison on March 6, 2005. She is survived by five sons, Denis Wittman and wife Cinda of Ottawa, Kansas; Frank Wittman and wife Connie of Garnett, Kansas; Tom Wittman and wife Debbie of Garnett, Kansas; Tim Wittman and Sherry Jones of Garnett, Kansas; Tony Wittman of Garnett, Kansas; five daughters, Delores Morrison and husband Jack of Lavonia, Missouri; Alberta Jackson and husband Curt of Garnett, Kansas; Eileen Katzer of Greeley, Kansas; Mary Katzer and husband Tom of Greeley, Kansas; Berniece McGowin and husband Charlie of El Cajon, California; two brothers, Alfred Kueser of Lee's Summit, Missouri; and Frank Kueser of Williamsburg, Virginia; three sisters, Irene Wittman and husband Raymond of Garnett, Kansas; Theresa Schermerhorn of Laytonsville, Maryland; and Marie Robertson and husband Jerry of Richmond, Kansas; 23 grandchildren;42 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Scipio, Kansas. Burial will follow at the St. Boniface Cemetery in Scipio. A Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday evening at the St. Boniface Catholic Church, and family will be present to greet friends following the Rosary service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Boniface Cemetery Fund.
