Lavon M. Elrod, age 93, of Moran, Kansas, passed away on February 22, 2009 at the Heritage Health Center in Chanute, Kansas. She was born April 12, 1915, at Winslow, Arizona, the daughter of Arthur B. and Gertrude (Kimmel) McClimans. She was raised and educated in Texas and graduated from Marfa High School, Marfa, Texas in 1932. She married Jesse Lee Elrod, Sr., on December 30, 1932 at Marfa, Texas and they made their home in Texas for a number of years before moving to Kansas in 1944 while Mr. Elrod served in the armed services in World War II. She was a long time member of the Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder and taught Sunday school for many years and was a member of the PWC of the church, a past member of the Eastern Star and Rebecah Lodges. Lavon was affiliated with the Moran Public Library for 21 years in various capacities and was the head Librarian for 17 years before retiring in 1989. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Gertrude McClimans, her husband, Jesse Lee Elrod on October 1, 1967, and one sister, Virginia Smith. Her survivors include two sons, Jesse L. Elrod Jr. and wife Wilma, of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Robert A. Elrod and wife Marilyn of Littleton, Colorado; one daughter Sharon Jackson and husband Bruce of Chanute, Kansas, one brother, M.D. McClimans of Moran, Kansas, seven grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 27, 2009, at 1:30 p.m., at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Moran, Kansas, burial to follow at the Ft. Scott National Cemetery, Ft.
