Lawrence "Larry" Brock

November 14, 1935 — February 2, 2025

Lawrence David Brock, Jr., known to most as "Larry," age 89, passed away on February 2, 2025 in Chanute, Kansas.

Larry was born on November 14, 1935 to Lawrence and Charlotte "Lottie" Brock, on a farm East of Buffalo, Kansas. He attended all eight years of grade school in Center Ridge country school. He graduated from Buffalo High School in 1953.

Larry married Wilma Schultz on November 9, 1958. The union was blessed with five children.

Larry worked at a Chanute car agency for a short time after high school. He learned the carpentry trade under a contractor in Humboldt. He worked there for eight years, then worked for Humboldt Co-op as a gas hauler for three years. Larry and Melvin Baker worked together as contractors for the next 33 years until they retired in 1998. They built many homes and businesses in and around Humboldt. Larry built many beautiful pieces of furniture for his family, as well.

Larry was a 4-H woodworking leader, served as United Methodist Church trustee for many years, raised cattle, farmed, enjoyed pecan grafting, and was a friend to many. After retirement, he made wooden name plates for many friends. His name appears on the bottom of many of these in many homes around the Humboldt area and beyond.

Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma; parents, Lawrence and Charlotte; granddaughters, Stacy and Ashley Brock; brother, Merrill Brock; and sister, MaryAnn Christian.

He is survived by children, Stephanie (Lonnie) Larson of Iola, Mark (Amandia) Brock of Independence, Kansas, Alisha (Curt) Mueller of Humboldt, Daneen (Brad) Hollern of Spring Hill, and Matt (Sally) Brock of Redfield; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara (Glen) Uden of Chanute; brother, Dean (Nina) Brock of Chanute; and numerous other family and friends.
