Lawrence Raymond Crawford, 84, of Iola, Kansas, died Friday, June 17, 2011, at his home. Lawrence was born September 24, 1926, at Osage, Kansas, the son of William Medford and Hazel Rachel Viola May (Rider) Crawford. He grew up on a farm southeast of Humboldt and was a member of the Humboldt High School class of 1946. On June 28, 1947, Lawrence married Dorothy Jean Adams in Iola and they made their home in Humboldt. He worked for Glen Bradford in a hardware store in Humboldt until it burned. The business was rebuilt in Iola as Bradford Tractor Sales and Glen Bradford sold it to Lawrence and Kenny Storrer and they named their business Crawford & Storrer Implement Company. Lawrence and Dorothy moved to Iola in 1967 and Dorothy preceded him in death August 26, 1974. When Lawrence retired in 1991, Kenny bought his share of the company. After retirement, Lawrence worked at Country Mart in Iola. Lawrence married Ola L. Sparks on May 24, 2007, and they lived in Iola. She died Dec. 31, 2010. Lawrence enjoyed tractor pulling and fishing. He had served as an Iola Auxiliary Policeman and Iola Storm Watcher. SURVIVORS: 1 Son: Larry Crawford & wife, Carol of Iola, Kansas 6 Sisters: Elsie Byers & husband, Don of Chanute, Kansas, Rachel Almond & husband, Glen of Dayton, Oregon, Shirley Moody & husband, Leonard of Polson, Montana, Evelyn Buchanan & husband, Gary of Scappoose, Oregon, Peggy Milner & husband, Clao of Polson, Montana and Sharon Hanson & husband, Rodney of Polson, Montana 1 Granddaughter 2 Great Grandchildren A host of nieces and nephews A sister, Betty Jean Crawford, preceded him in death. VISITATION: 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Mount Hope Cemetery in Humboldt, Kansas. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate. MEMORIAL CHOICES: Allen County Home Health or Allen County Hospice Memorial gifts may be left with the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Memorial Chapel of Iola, which is in charge of arrangements.
