Lawrence Herrmann, age 85, of Moran, Kansas, passed away on Monday, March 31, 2014, at his home. Lawrence was born, October 15, 1928 at Selma, Kansas. He was the fifth of seven children born to Leonard and Ruth (Smethers) Herrmann. He grew up in Selma, where he attended school at Salem Elementary and then Kincaid High School, graduating in 1946. Lawrence then joined the Navy in 1948. On October 15, 1950 Lawrence married Betty Evans at Kincaid. This union was blessed with 5 children. After returning home from the Navy, he began farming around Selma and Kincaid and operating his trucking business, until he retired in 1992. He served on the board of directors of Kincaid Farmers Fertilizer & Grain for 17 years, 5 years as president. One of Lawrence's passions was the restoration of antique tractors; he acquired and restored about two dozen. He enjoyed sharing them in area shows and parades. He was a member of Pioneer Harvest Fiesta Antique Tractor Club of Fort Scott, Kansas. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Kincaid Selma United Methodist Church. Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Larry, in 1984; one brother Chester Herrmann; three sisters, Dorothy Cooper, Doris Jean Hultz, and Juanita Fortunati. He is survived by wife of 63 years, Betty, of the home; four children, Sheryl Bussell of Kansas City, Kansas, Diana Brannon, Vancouver, Washington, Peggy Lundine and husband, Eugene, of Humboldt, Kansas and Jim Herrmann of Greensboro, North Carolina; 10 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; and two brothers, Herbert Herrmann of San Diego, California and Wayne Herrmann and wife, Ruth, of Merriam, Kansas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, April 4, 2014, at the Kincaid Selma United Methodist Church, Kincaid, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Kincaid Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday evening at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 344 N. Cedar, Moran, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas University Cancer Care Center or to Pioneer Harvest Fiesta Antique Tractor Club and left in care of the funeral home.
