Lawrence Penka, age 81, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Richmond Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Kansas.
Lawrence Joseph Penka was born on May 22, 1942, the oldest son of four children born to Phillip and Emma (Wendtlandt) Penka.
He attended school in Greeley, Kansas, and graduated from Greeley High School with the class of 1960. He joined the Marine Corp after high school and served from 1960-1964. He attended Allen County Community College where he studied computers.
Lawrence farmed on the homeplace east of Garnett for the majority of his life.
He was an active member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, as well as being a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #1368. He was an avid bowler and was a member of the Knights bowling team for many years.
Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his brother, Bernard and Bette Penka of Garnett; and two sisters, Hilda and Jim Suttles of Raytown, Missouri, and Dolores and Tom McAsey of Holton, Kansas; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30AM on Friday, November 3, 2023, at the Holy Angels Catholic Church in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Holy Angels Cemetery in Garnett, Kansas.
