Lela Timmons, age 85, of Earling, Iowa, formerly of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Friday, January 27, 2012 at the Little Flower Haven Nursing Home in Earling, Iowa. She was born September 22, 1926, in Hartford, Kansas, the daughter of David D. and Alice (Wood) Buckridge. Lela lived in the Gridley, Kansas area and married Lee O. Timmons on August 7, 1946 at Gridley, Kansas. This union was blessed with seven children. They moved to Garden City, Kansas from 1958 to 1979. Upon retirement, they moved to Garnett making their home on a farm south of town. Lela was a member of the First Baptist Church in Garnett. She started a prayer group in the Harlan First Assembly of God Church in Harlan, Iowa, and offered a gift of song to the church during the holidays. Lela was a collector of greeting cards. She had many friends at the nursing home, never meeting a stranger. Lela was a good mother and loved her husband and family dearly. She will be truly missed by everyone who knew her, especially her family. She preceded in death by her parents, David and Alice Buckridge; her husband, Lee Timmons on November 23, 1994; an infant child on August 31, 1947; a daughter, Rose Martin on September 22, 1989; a brother, Alva Buckridge in 2003. Lela is survived by her three daughters, Dorothy May of Garden City, Kansas; Ruth Pederson of Morristown, Tennessee; Maryann Timmons of Dodge City, Kansas; two sons, Robert Lee Timmons of Garnett, Kansas and Joseph Lynn Timmons and wife Ann of Sanford, North Carolina; 9 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter; one brother, David Buckridge Jr. and wife Betty of Hiawatha, Kansas; a sister, Nadine Barber of San Angelo, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012 at the First Baptist Church, Garnett. The family will be present to greet friends at 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Wharton Cemetery also known as Fairhope Cemetery at Gridley, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lela Timmons Memorial Fund.
