Leland "Bon" Gumfory, 80, of Iola, Kansas, died Sunday, December 11, 2011, at his home. He was born July 28, 1931, in Iola, Kansas, the son of John M. and Lela B. (Banks) Gumfory. He grew up in Iola and served in the United States Army. Bon worked for M&M Packing Company before owning and operating the Zero Locker Plant. He later partnered with his brother Duane in the oil business operating as Double G Oil. On January 1, 1966, Bon married Darlene Whitworth Johnson and they made their home in Iola. She preceded him in death on September 1, 2009. Bon enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and especially fishing. SURVIVORS: 2 Sons: Rick Johnson of Iola, KS, and Jeff Johnson of Cave Springs, Arkansas 2 Daughters: Rose Johnson of Iola, Kansas, and Maxalene Gumfory of Iola, Kansas 2 Brothers: John M. Gumfory, Jr. of Austin, Texas, and LeRoy "Lee" Gumfory of Iola, Kansas 3 Sisters: Onella Valentine of Neosho Falls, Kansas, Roberta Hutton of Iola, Kansas, and Janet Mueller of Humboldt, Kansas 15 Grandchildren & 12 Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by a son, Bryan Johnson, brothers Robert, Charles, J.M. "Bud" and Duane Gumfory and a sister Juanita Maple. FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 14, 2011, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. Chaplain Lloyd W. Houk will officiate.
