Lenna Naomi Brooks Adams, age 99, formerly of Lone Elm, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2008, at Garden Terrace Nursing Facility in Overland Park, Kansas. She was born January 12, 1909, the daughter of Frank and Clementine (Snyder) Brooks, on a farm near Centerville, Kansas, in Linn County. She attended school in the one room school of Coffeebean until she was 10 years old, when she moved with her family to a farm southwest of Blue Mound, Kansas. She then attended school at Harmony and high school in Blue Mound. Lenna married Roscoe M. Adams on February 26, 1926, and they lived on the Adams farm southwest of Kincaid, Kansas, until 1935, when they purchased and moved to a farm northeast of Lone Elm, Kansas. Roscoe passed away on July 20, 1965. Lenna remained on the farm until August of 1979, when she moved to Garnett, and then to Merriam, Kansas, in 1985 to be near her family. She was a member of the Kincaid Baptist Church, garden club and bowling team. She enjoyed making afghans, embroidering and gardening, especially her Iris. She also enjoyed bowling with her team and going to national tournaments held in various cities of the United States, as well as other travels. Lenna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her infant son Paul; infant daughter Louise; and her brother, Willie Paul Brooks. She is survived by her daughter Ruth Herrmann and husband Wayne of Merriam, Kansas; two granddaughters, Cathy Duderstadt and husband Wayne of Ottawa, Kansas; Nancy Spieker and husband David of Shawnee, Kansas; four great grandchildren, Eric Duderstadt and wife Heidi; Stacey Gorton and husband Sam, both of Ottawa, Kansas; Dustin Spieker of Atlanta, Georgia; Evan Spieker of Bloomington, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2008 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Lone Elm Cemetery in Lone Elm, Kansas. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning at the funeral home. She will lie in state after 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2008, at the funeral home in Garnett. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Cancer Society.
