Leon Elmer Larson

Leon Elmer Larson, 90, of rural Savonburg, Kansas, passed away on March 31, 2019, surrounded by his family.  Leon was born on May 10, 1928, to parents Elmer and Emma (Pierson) Larson in their white farmhouse west of Savonburg, which was to be his home for the next 90 years.  He attended schools at Wannersburg and Savonburg and was part of the last graduating class from Savonburg High School in 1946.    Farming, family, and faith were his life.  While still a child, his father died after an extended illness. Relatives and neighbors assisted in keeping the farm going until he finished his education and could fully assume his farming duties.  He raised a variety of crops and livestock consistent with the area and the times.  He farmed as long as he was able and was assisted in recent years by his son-in-law, Kelly Klubek.  Leon married Virginia Rost on October 11, 1964, and they had three children.  He was a life-long member of the nearby Savonburg Evangelical Covenant Church where he served in a variety of capacities including chairman and treasurer.  Survivors include his three children, David Larson, Olathe, Kansas, Natalie and Kelly Klubek, Iola, Kansas, and Julie and Kevin Cook, Topeka, Kansas; and five grandchildren, Emily Klubek, Erin Klubek, Sydney Cook, Anastasia Cook, and Anthony Cook.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia, his parents and his sisters Ramona and Joan.    The family offers sincerest thanks and appreciation to the many skilled professionals whose tireless care eased his journey through the past two months.  Visitation for Leon will be Thursday April 4, 2019, from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Venue, 1883 US-Hwy 54 Iola, Kansas. Funeral Services for Leon will be Friday April 5, 2019, 10:30a.m. at Savonburg Evangelical Covenant Church, 3840 Arizona Road Savonburg, Kansas 66772. Burial will follow in Swedish Cemetery, Savonburg, Kansas. Memorials in honor of Leon are suggested to Savonburg Evangelical Covenant Church and can be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service.
