Leon A. Murrow, age 56, of Elsmore, Kansas, died Saturday, December 1, 2007 at K U Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas. He was born October 15, 1951 at Moran, Kansas, the son of the late Vernon E. Murrow and Helen M. (Dunington) Murrow. Leon graduated from Blue Mound High School and worked for Elsmore Grain. He became a dairyman and had hogs on the farm. He went to Klein Tools and later managed the Stark Grain Elevator. Raising hogs and dairy cattle was a passion for Leon for over 21 years. In 1993, Leon transformed his dairy operation into a beef cattle operation that still exists today. He loved to hunt, to garden; to fish, especially taking the grandkids fishing, and just loved the outdoors. He had a love for his family and friends and liked to play a good game of Pitch. He felt truly blessed to be able to make a living doing what he loved. He always said that he did not think of farming and ranching as a job, it was an enjoyment. Leon was a member of the volunteer Fire Department at Elsmore. He married Sandra J. Dumcum on February 5, 1971, at Parker, Kansas. This union was blessed with two sons, Scott and Brian. Leon was preceded in death by his father, Vernon Murrow. He is survived by his wife Sandy Murrow of the home; two sons, Scott Murrow and his wife Gretchen of Humboldt, Kansas; Brian Murrow of Osawatomie, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Ashley Murrow, Alex Murrow, Marley Murrow, Cole Murrow, Joe Murrow, Isabelle Murrow and Kirstyn Murrow; his mother, Helen M. Murrow of Blue Mound, Kansas; one brother, Bill Murrow of Blue Mound, Kansas; one sister, Donna Casner of Ft. Scott, Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 344 North Cedar, Moran, Kansas. The funeral will be Wednesday at 10:30 am at Elsmore United Methodist Church, Elsmore, Kansas, with Pastor Connie Cox officiating. Burial will follow at the Elsmore Cemetery, Elsmore, Kansas.
