Freddie Leon Thompson, age 72, died Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at the Moran Manor following a diagnosis of Lewy Body Demensia. He was born March 19, 1943 in Moran, Kansas, the first child of 7 children born to Fred and Illah (Pool) Thompson. He attended Moran schools and graduated from Marmaton Valley High School in 1961. On June 10, 1962, Leon married Judith Klimek at the United Methodist Church in Moran. They later divorced. He later married Judith Holinsworth on July 23, 1997, in Miami, Oklahoma. Leon was a member of the Kansas Auctioneers Association, Mirza Shrine, Marmaton Masonic Lodge, The Kansas Livestock Association, he was a former board member of the Kansas Beef Council, Iola Elks Lodge and Salem United Methodist Church. Leon formerly worked for the ASCS office in Iola, Farm Bureau Insurance Company, he was former owner and co-owner of the Allen County Livestock Auction. He also worked as an auctioneer with Bud Butts and later with son Kent with Thompson and Thompson Auction Service. Leon is survived by his wife Judith C. Thompson, Iola, 2 sons, Kent Thompson, and wife, Susan of rural LaHarpe, Kansas, and Kurt Thompson and wife, Cheryl, of Springfield, Missouri, four grandchildren; Kenna (Thompson) Chesnut, Springfield, Missouri and Kyler Thompson of Pittsburg, Kansas, and Mia and Ami Thompson of Springfield, Missouri; step-daughter Cindy Holinsworth of Humboldt, Kansas, step-son Steve (Barnie) Holinsworth, Pittsburg, step-granddaughters Lauren and Paige Holinsworth, Eureka, MO and Aliza and Alivia Benedict, Pittsburg, 2 brothers, Darrell (Sandy) Thompson and Larry Thompson, all of Iola, 4 sisters, Cheryl (Robert) Welch, Moran, KS, twin sisters Nina Worthington, Mound City, and Nita (Bob) Hunt, Marysville, OH, and Linda (Chuck) Heffern, Iola. He is also survived by his special aunt, Nina Lee Johnson, Elsmore and many special extended family members. VISITATION: 6:00-8:00 p.m., Saturday, May 30, 2015, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 31, 2015, at the Moran United Methodist Church.
