Leonard D. Brocklesby, age 74, of Garnett, Kansas passed away March 20, 2010 at the Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas. Leonard was born May 2, 1935 at Garnett the son of Rolla and Marie (Rand) Brocklesby. He attended elementary school in Garnett. His family moved to Wichita, Kansas at the time he was entering high school. Leonard attended Wichita East High School. On June 14, 1958 Leonard married Anita Delores Harter at Wichita. This union was blessed with three children. In 1958 Leonard entered the U.S. Army, serving for two years; he was stationed in Germany. Leonard worked as a machinist for Boeing Aircraft for 19 years. In 1970 they moved to Garnett, where he worked as a truck driver for Regal Manufacturing, then for the City of Garnett at the power plant. Leonard later worked for Shade Foods in Gardner for 10 years, retiring in 1997. Leonard served as a member of the Garnett Police Department volunteer reserves for several years. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting and fishing, but his greatest joy was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, Vertus E. Jackson; one infant brother, Virgil Eugene Brocklesby and one sister, Joan Smith. He is survived by his wife, Delores of the home; one son, Fred Brocklesby and wife, Gail, of Woodland Park, Colorado; two daughters, Johnna Rios, and Darlene Lickteig and husband, Bill, of Garnett; 8 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Dwayne Brocklesby of Hayesville, Kansas. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel, Garnett. The family will greet friends following the service. Memorial contributions may be given to Toys For Tots and may be left in care of the funeral home.
