Linda Kathleen (Caler) Schomaker was born June 14, 1949, in Iola, Kansas, to the late Wayne D. & Bertha E. (Monroe) Caler. Linda attended schools in Iola and Colorado, graduating from Iola High School in 1967. She attended The Kansas State Teachers College (now Emporia State University), graduating in 1971 with a bachelor's in education.
Linda married Louis (Jerry) Schomaker of Yates Center, Kansas, and three children were born of that union.
Linda and Jerry moved to Frankfort, Kansas in 1975, where she educated more than 300 students over her 43 years of teaching for the school district. Her professional longevity has touched the lives of countless families and will have an impact for years to come. Linda also taught English Composition I & II, as well as Speech, for Highland Community College. Linda was active in the school system, serving as junior class sponsor and taking gate at multiple sporting events for many years, continuing to do so even after her retirement from teaching in 2018. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an International Society for Key Women Educators, since 1993, serving as secretary in her local chapter. She was a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary in LaHarpe, Kansas, and served as Treasurer for her local Auxiliary chapter in her last post. She was also a life member of the LaHarpe VFW Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Heritage "Hotties".
Linda enjoyed traveling (she went to Paris and Alaska after retirement), shopping, spending time with her friends, watching her soap operas, dancing, and reminiscing about her teaching days. She especially enjoyed watching her Kansas City Chiefs and was excited about the two recent Super Bowl wins, talking to the TV in a stern manner when she didn't agree with the call.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband, daughter Laura, and parents, as well as a step-grandson, Nathan.
She leaves behind two sons, Scott (April) of El Paso, Texas, and Douglas (April) of Marysville, Kansas, a stepdaughter, Shelli (Jim) and a stepson, Sean (Vivian) both of Las Vegas, Nevada. She is also survived by her brother, Roy Caler of LaHarpe, Kansas, and her sister, Janice Caler of Valrico, Florida, as well as a brother-in-law from her union with Jerry, Ron Schomaker, of Wichita, Kansas.

Linda was like a mother/grandmother to many others; always remembering to get their birthday, Halloween, and Christmas cards out every year. She loved "Everything" Disney and her favorite time of year was Christmas, when she decorated everything and spoiled everyone around her.
