Lloyd L. Specht, age 92, of Piqua, Kansas, passed away Friday, April 19, 2019, at his rural Piqua home. Lloyd was born on April 21, 1926, in Piqua, Kansas, to Carl E. Specht and Mary Louise Konen Specht. Lloyd attended school in Piqua, Neosho Falls, and Iola, Kansas. He joined the army and served his country from 1944 to 1946. Lloyd and Rose Matilda “Tillie” Wille were married on June 9, 1952. A highlight of Lloyd’s life was to travel to Washington, DC, on the Honor Flight in 2008. Lloyd was met there by World War II veteran former United States Senator Bob Dole. Lloyd loved playing baseball in his younger years and he loved dancing in his later years. In 1949, Lloyd’s Piqua baseball team won the Bronson Tournament, qualifying them to go to the NBC Tournament in Wichita. The winning paid the team $1500. The winnings were used to install baseball field lights at Piqua. The lights came from the Kansas City A’s, as did the uniforms that were donated to Piqua by the Kansas City A’s. Lloyd worked for the MKT Railroad until the 1951 flood. Lloyd was also a substitute rural mail carrier. Lloyd enjoyed farming, raising livestock, and being active in the Knights of Columbus. He was a lifetime member of the Piqua Knights of Columbus, Council No. 2289. Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife; parents; brother, Archie Specht; and sister, Bernice Wille. Lloyd is survived by daughter, Jean Burnett and husband, Frenchie, Ruther Glen, Virginia; sons, Jim Specht, Piqua, Kansas, Darren Specht and wife, Kim, LeRoy, Kansas; grandchildren, Clifton Wiggins and wife, Theresa, Johnstown, Colorado, Isaac Specht and husband, Greg Walker, Kansas City, Missouri, Hannah Pommier and husband, Alan, Pittsburg, Kansas, Jeremiah Specht, Kansas, Micah Specht, Piqua, Kansas, and Paul Krieger and wife, Brittany, Wellington, Kansas; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Louise “Babe” Collins, Fredonia, Kansas; brother, Hank Specht, Shawnee Mission, Kansas, Frank Specht and wife, Mandy, Iola, Kansas; and numerous other nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, in The Venue at Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, 1883 US Highway 54, Iola, Kansas. A Rosary will be recited at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at St. Martin’s Oratory, 1368 Xylan Road, Piqua, Kansas, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 10:30 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow the Mass in St. Martin’s Cemetery, Piqua, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to St. Martin’s Oratory or to a Mass in honor of Lloyd, and may be left with Feuerborn Family Funeral Service, Iola, Kansas.
