Lois Marie Miller, age 97, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2016, at Cimarron Nursing Center in Kingfisher, Oklahoma. Lois was born on a farm southwest of Garnett, Kansas on January 1, 1919. She was the third of eight children born to Dite and Ella (Tilton) Benjamin. She was a lifetime resident of the Garnett area. Lois grew up on the farm with her parents, three sisters and four brothers. She attended Washington country school and graduated from Garnett High School in 1935. Lois was a member of the First Christian Church in Garnett since an early age. Lois married Frank Miller on January 3, 1937 in Iola, Kansas. They enjoyed 69 years of marriage together. This union was blessed with four children. She was a good mother and was a source of support and encouragement for her kids. Lois and Frank worked together as a team and had a successful farm and a happy home. Lois was a good seamstress and made her own and her daughter's clothes. After retirement she made many beautiful quilts. She belonged to Hyatt Club, a neighborhood quilting club, her entire adult life. She enjoyed her involvement with Christian Crafters, where she worked on quilts, and enjoyed the fellowship. She was a good cook, made wonderful chicken and noodles and good pies, and always made it look easy. After retirement from farming, Lois and Frank built a cabin on Sugar Valley Lake near Mound City, Kansas. They enjoyed spending time there, fishing, relaxing, and entertaining family and friends. However, after a few days, they always came back home to the farm. Bowling was an important activity for Lois. She bowled on a women's team, a mixed league with Frank, and was a valued scorekeeper for Frank's team. She traveled with Frank to many state bowling tournaments and had lots of fun with her bowling friends. Lois and Frank learned to square dance and enjoyed dancing with a group in Garnett. Travel was a passion for Lois and Frank after retirement. They traveled by car, and on bus tours. They enjoyed traveling to 48 different states, some more than once. Family benefited from their travels, as they shared great pictures and stories with lots of enthusiasm. Lois was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank; her daughter, Kathryn; her son, Gerald; daughter-in-law Virginia Miller; son-in-law, Terry Stewart; grandsons, Randy and Gerry Miller; four brothers, Earl, Glen, Albert, and Charles Benjamin; two sisters, Inez Cain and Mariellen Gettler.
