Lola M. Pinneo

d. September 27, 2013

Lola Margaret Pinneo passed away on Friday, September 27, 2013 at Golden Heights Living Center in Garnett after 92 years of a life filled with farming, family, flowers, and good friends. Lola was born May 8, 1921 on a farm near Kincaid, Kansas, the second child of John Elmer Carter and Laura (Root) Carter. Lola grew up in the Lone Elm area and graduated from Lone Elm High School in 1939. On October 25, 1940 she married Francis E. Pinneo. They made their home near Kincaid where they started their family, Irene was born in 1941, Wesley in 1943, and Henry in 1946. Lola worked on the farm with Francis. The garden consumed a good deal of her time and she would often be barefooted by choice. Her children recall her ability to milk two cows to their one. Life on the farm was busy and Lola "shared" that with the kids as they helped with the chores and the garden and other tasks like dressing chickens. In 1952 they moved to the Selma community where they lived until 1973. Lola and Francis were very active 4-H Leaders after helping to organize the Selma Flaming Arrow 4-H club. Lola loved having her family share Sunday dinners at their home and did so most every Sunday, which would then lead to a card game. In 1973 they sold their farm near Selma and purchased homes in Arizona and Colorado. Over the next 7 years they spent time between the two homes choosing the more favorable weather of each location. Throughout the 1970's they also enjoyed travelling with their camper and square dancing. In 1980 they bought a home in Garnett. Life in Garnett was still active as they square danced a lot and pursued their hobbies. On December 28, 1997 Francis passed away. Lola enjoyed being out and about, and after Francis' death, she and Lawrence Gilliland, were able to share several enjoyable years. They could often be found at one of the local restaurants where Lola was more than likely eating a tenderloin sandwich. She loved playing cards throughout her life but especially in the years after moving to Parkside Place in 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; step-son Russell Pinneo; grandson, Earl Dean Louk in 1965; great-great-grandson, Chance Riley Bowen; and her brother, Cleo Carter. Lola leaves behind, her daughter, Irene and husband, Gary of Garnett, two sons, Wesley and wife, Beverly of Kincaid and Henry and wife, Linda of Mound City, Kansas; 9 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 5 step-great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren; two aunts, Sally Glasgow of Liberty, Missouri and Marjorie Buck of California and numerous other friends and family. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow in the Garnett Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 6:00-8:00 PM, Monday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Kincaid High School Community Center or to the Kincaid Fair Association.
