Loreda M. Evans

Loreda M. Evans, age 96 of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Anderson County Long Term Care in Garnett, Kansas. Loreda was born on May 30, 1913, at Gas City, Kansas, the daughter of Walter and Stella (Leake) Adams. She grew up in Gas, later moving to Yates Center, and LeRoy before her family settled northwest of Colony. She was united in marriage to Lloyd R. Evans at Lane, Kansas, on September 20, 1931. She spent time traveling with Lloyd while he was doing construction, until they eventually made their home west of Garnett in 1946. Loreda enjoyed her garden, canning and baking. She was the unofficial family historian and enjoyed sharing their story with the younger generations. Her greatest joy was her family. Loreda was known as "Aunt Toots" to her nieces and nephews and loved her time with them. Loreda was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Evans on May 18, 1978; her son, Harold L. Evans on November 18, 2008; and her granddaughter, Rhonda Hermreck on August 4, 2004; three brothers, Harold, Homer and Harlan Adams; her sister, Lorena Pease. She is survived by her great grandchildren, Brooke, Jacob, and Nickole Hermreck of Garnett; 3 step-grandchildren, D.J. Lemieux, and Donna Weddle, both of Fort Scott, Kansas and Lloyd Lemieux of Chanute, Kansas; 3 step-great-grandchildren Alicia, Dawn, Willie; 6 step-great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Leota Waddell of Moran, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 8, 2010, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. The family will greet friends following the service on Monday. Inurnment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Highland Cemetery in Iola, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society and left in care of the funeral home.
