Harriet "Lorene" Hatten Strobel, age 91, of Scipio, Kansas, died Saturday, August 2, 2008 at Olathe Medical Center, Olathe, Kansas. Lorene was born on October 27, 1916 at Westphalia, Kansas, the daughter of Loren and Eveleena (McCann) Hatten. She married Richard Strobel on December 27, 1949 at Garnett, Kansas. This union was blessed with three children. She grew up in Westphalia, Kansas; later moving to Garnett where she worked for J.C. Penney's and belonged to the B.P.W. for nine years before she married Richard. She lived on the farm for the rest of her life. She loved her many years of cooking, baking pies, gardening, sewing and crafts. She most of all loved being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren so very much. She was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church and the Altar Society. Lorene was preceded in death by her parents, Loren and Eveleena Hatten; her husband, Richard Strobel; and one brother Eugene Hatten. She is survived by her son, John Strobel and wife Cheryl of Garnett, Kansas; two daughters, Catherine Jane Kratzberg and husband Gary of Olathe, Kansas; Barbara Jan Setter and husband Kenneth of Belton, Missouri; one cousin, Frank Hatten of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three sister-in-laws, Bernice Rockers of Ottawa, Kansas; Ethel Mae Meyers of Overland Park, Kansas; Hilda Patton of Rancho Palos Verdes, California; fourteen grandchildren, Lori Setter, Jerry Setter, Janel Setter, Michelle Beets, Amy Coleman, Danette Goss, Christina Kuhlman, Micheal Kratzberg, Eric Kratzberg, Lisa Kratzberg, Luke Kratzberg, Jake Strobel, Joe Strobel, and Kyra Strobel; nine great grandchildren, Nicole Setter, Abigail Byrd, Cole Setter, Anna Setter, Kaitlin Beets, Henry Guy Beets, Karisa Goss, Ryley Goss and Carson Kuhlman.
