Loyd E. Crabtree, 77, of Iola, Kansas, died Friday, May 22, 2009, at his home. Loyd was born December 12, 1931, at Cassoday, Kansas, the son of Marion L. and Bessie E. (Pittman) Crabtree. He grew up in the Hamilton, Kansas area and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1950. He was working for Phillips Petroleum before being drafted into the United States Army during the Korean conflict. He later transferred to the U.S. Army Reserve. He returned to Phillips Petroleum where he worked for over 30 years, most of it in the Cloquet, Minnesota area. He retired as terminal manager from Phillips Petroleum. On July 25, 1981, Loyd married Margaret E. "Marge" (Rotsaert) Johnson in Cloquet, Minnesota. They moved to Iola in 1987 to make their home. He was a member of the Iola American Legion. SURVIVORS: Wife: Margaret "Marge" Crabtree of the home 6 Children: Brenda Huisinger (Ron) of Cloquet, MN; Brian Crabtree (Sharon) of Atlanta, GA; Barb Crabtree (James Gragg) of Denver, CO; Brad Crabtree of San Antonio, TX; Karen Northrup (Mark) of Hudsonville,MI; and Sharon Fiebiger (Greg) of Shoreview, MN 13 Grandchildren & 1 Great Granddaughter 2 Sisters: Phyllis Hare & Ann Jardot both of Eureka, KS He was preceded in death by 6 siblings. VISITATION: 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. FUNERAL SERVICE: 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 28, 2009, at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel in Iola. The Rev. Steve Bubna will officiate. BURIAL: Highland Cemetery in Iola, with military honors.
