Loydene West

Loydene M. West, age 88, of Osawatomie, Kansas, passed away on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Vintage Park at Osawatomie in Osawatomie, Kansas.

She was born on August 20, 1936, in Cedar Vale, Kansas, the daughter of Lloyd Leroy and Hazel Blanch (Vincent) White. Loydene graduated from Cedar Vale High School.

Loydene was a devoted homemaker who cherished spending time in her garden and could produce a bounty of canned goods. Along with her love for gardening, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and fishing. For several years, she owned and operated the Dairy Bar in Cedar Vale, Kansas, and for over 30 years, she ran an alterations business from her home in Winfield, Kansas.

Family was everything to Loydene. She delighted in spending time with her loved ones and hosting large family gatherings. Among her famous dishes were popcorn cake, pistachio fluff salad, and her unforgettable hamburger soup. She also loved creating individual Christmas gifts, including hats, quilts, stuffed animals, and baby dolls. In addition, she made many quilts for charity to support important causes.

Loydene had a passion for making memories with her grandchildren, often playing Bingo and card games. With an extraordinary memory, she never forgot even the smallest details of those precious moments.

In her community, Loydene was actively involved with the American Legion Auxiliary and the Eight and Forty organization, leaving a lasting impact wherever she went.

Loydene was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Larry Wolfe; her second husband, Win Lee West; sister, Margaret Waller; brother,Maurice White; grandchildren, Daniel Cox, Yvette Bourguet, Jared Wolfe, and Nathan McAdam; niece,Tanya Cromwell.

She is survived by her sister, Nina Sutton; children, Dean Wolfe, Leonard Wolfe, Roger Wolfe, Melvin Wolfe, Connie Meyer; bonus children, Douglas West, Sharon Cox, PJ Simpson, Debra Brown and Sandra Armijo; 28 grandchildren; 72 great grandchildren; and 14 great-great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the First Christian Church in Garnett, Kansas. Loydene's family will greet friends from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service. Burial will take place at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 10th, 2024, at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas. Following the committal in Winfield, the family will greet friends from 1:15 P.M. to 3:15 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Winfield, Kansas.
