L.R. Parker

Lewis R. "L.R." Parker, 81, of Gas, Kansas, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2013, at his home. L.R. was born May 7, 1932, in Joplin, Missouri, the son of Edgar and Janie (Foster) Parker. He attended schools in Joplin and graduated from Joplin High School in 1950. He worked for Sears in Joplin and Tulsa before moving to Iola in 1964 as a service repairman for Sears. He worked for Western Auto and H.L. Miller before becoming maintenance supervisor for Herff-Jones in 1973 where he worked 17½ years. L.R. married Betty Stapleton in 1978 and they made their home in Gas. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church in Chanute. SURVIVORS: His wife of 35 years: Betty L. Parker of the home 3 Daughters: Reva Thomas & husband, Terry and Sherry Jones & husband, Kevin all of Wheatland, MO and Angela George & husband, Mike of Humboldt, KS 10 Grandchildren & 20 Great Grandchildren 1 Sister: Wathena Watts of Joplin, MO IN-STATE: He will lie in-state at the Waugh-Yokum Friskel Chapel on Friday for friends and family to pay their respects and Saturday until leaving for the cemetery. GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Highland Cemetery in Iola. Friends and family will meet at the Waugh-Yokum & Friskel Chapel at 1:30 p.m. before leaving for the cemetery.
