Lulu Belle Nixon, age 57, of rural Bush City, Kansas, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2011, at the Anderson County Hospital in Garnett, Kansas. Lulu was born on April 23, 1954, at Newton, Kansas, the daughter of Clarence Franklin and Virginia Lee (Seeney) Hudson. She grew up in Emporia, Kansas and graduated from Emporia High School. She was united in marriage to Charles E. Nixon on December 8, 1971, at Emporia, Kansas. This union was blessed with five children. From 1971 to 1979, Charlie's service in the Navy took them to various locations including Guam, Virginia, South Carolina, and finally to Kansas City, MO. After his Navy service, Lulu and Charlie moved to Wellsville, Kansas for 23 years, until moving to their current location in rural Bush City where she had room for her horses and flowers. Lulu was a former Girl Scout Leader, she was the PTA President in Wellsville along with several other offices. She was a member of the Wellsville Planning Commission, the Wellsville Days Committee and had a byline in the Wellsville newspaper. She was a member of the Bush City Volunteer Fire Department and earned her Firefighter 1 certification. Lulu truly loved her family, flower gardens, her horse Tasha, and horseback riding. For several years she was the "Headless Horseman" for the Baldwin City spook train ride. She loved making quilt tops and presenting them to her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence "Frank" Hudson and Virginia Hensler; one son, Charles Donald Nixon in 1972; one grandson, Keegan Xavier Smith in 1993; three brothers, Frank "Buster" Hudson, Jack Hudson, and Tim Hudson. Lulu is survived by her husband, Charlie Nixon, of the home; daughter Leanne Hiner and husband Rich of Pomona, Kansas; daughter Lurina Nixon of Gardner, Kansas; son Donald Nixon of Indianapolis, Indiana and Katherine of Overland Park, Kansas; son Daniel Nixon and Kimberly of Garnett, Kansas; seven grandchildren; Austin Hiner; Ambriel Hiner; Matthew Nixon; Michael Nixon; Jonathan Nixon, William Nixon; Elizabeth Nixon; six sisters, Billie Lee Aye and husband Delbert of Tonganoxie, Kansas; Connie Colleen Hudson; Raina Fessler and husband Rodney of Emporia, Kansas; Susan Dunmire of Topeka, Kansa; Janelle DuBree and husband Will of Emporia, Kansas; Julie Mitchell and husband Marcus of Emporia, Kansas; two brothers, Sam Hudson and wife Mary of Wichita, Kansas; Jerry Hudson of Wichita, Kansas; She is also survived by a large number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at the 1st Baptist Church, 501 Country Lane, Council Grove, Kansas. Inurnment will be held at the Council Grove Cemetery following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to the charity of your choice.
