Luther Willard Justice, age 89, of Garnett, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, at Golden Heights in Garnett. He was born on August 15, 1926, at South Park, Kansas, the son of Emmitt Justice and Mary (Button) Justice. He grew up in the Shawnee area before graduating from Shawnee Mission High School. Luther was a World War II Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. Following his time in the service he returned to the Kansas City area and he went to work at the National Biscuit Company, where he met his future wife, Ruby Benskin. On January 17, 1947 Luther and Ruby were married at Kansas City, Kansas. This union was blessed with two children. Luther went to work for the Atchison, Topeka, & Santa Fe Railroad as a switchman in 1952 working in the Argentine railyard. Luther worked for A.T. & SF for 33 years, retiring in 1985 as a Yardmaster. Throughout his working years, Luther enjoyed spending time at the lake in Welda, Kansas, eventually purchasing property there. Mutual friends from the lake introduced Luther to Florence Mader, and they were later married on January 5, 1987. They made their home in Garnett and enjoyed 26 years of marriage until Florence passed away in 2013. Luther enjoyed dancing, traveling, golfing and singing, but his greatest passion was fishing, particularly at the North Lake. Luther was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rita Marie Justice in1972; his wife, Ruby in 1979; his wife, Florence in 2013; two brothers, Robert "Bo" Justice and Dean Justice; sister, Nettie Weixeldorfer; stepson, Mike Mader; and step grandson, Christopher Chitwood. He is survived by his son, Charles Justice and wife Sharon of St. Joseph, Missouri; two grandchildren, Stephen Justice and wife Carol "C.J." of Tucson, Arizona; Carrie Scoggins and husband Doug of Kansas City, Missouri; four great grandchildren, Jaidan, Kaylee, Delana, and Derek; stepson, Tom Mader and wife Cyndi of Edgerton, Kansas; four stepdaughters, Vickie Guilfoyle and husband Tom of Parker, Kansas; Helen Norman and husband Mike of Garnett, Kansas; Angie Chitwood and husband Gary of Garnett, Kansas; and Jeanine Stifter and husband Dan of Greeley, Kansas; twelve step grandchildren and seventeen step great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 31, 2015, at the Feuerborn Family Funeral Service Chapel in Garnett, Kansas. Burial will follow in the Holy Angels Cemetery in Garnett. Luther's family will greet friends at 1:00 PM prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association and left in care of the funeral home.
